Abstract
We observed bacteriostatic action of 2.4.5-trichlorophenoxyethylene pyridinium bromide for Staphylococcus aureus, E.coli, Salmonella typhi, Shigella flexneri; and Bacillus subtilus by the agar plate applying the method of Jackson and Finland and it was compared with the bacteriostatic action of phenol and trichlorophenol. The following results were obtained.
1) Phenol: Phenol inhibited the growth of bacteria mentioned above at the concentration of 10^(-3).
2) 2.4.5 trichlorophenol (2.4.5 TCP) inhibited the growth of those bacteria mentioned above at the concentration of 10^(-4) and 10^(-5) but at the concentration of 2X10^(-5) the bocteriostaic action showed very weak and not completely.
3) 2.4.5-trichlorophenoxyethylene pyridinium bromide inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi and Shiglla flexneri at the cocentration of 5X10^(-10) but showed very weak bacteriostatic action for E coli and Bacillus subtilus with the same concentration.
